Joel’s Photo from Asia 4: Taipei 101

Did you know that the world’s tallest building is in Taipei. Well, it is. There are 101 floors in the building, hence the name. It is an office building, a favored tour stop, and a shopping center.
For anyone studying “buy-ology” I suggest you start with the smaller shops on the lower level where there are really cool things, bags, shoes, etc. etc. and ETC. plus the food court. (Mickey Dee’s is there and there’s a big Starbucks across the street for anyone that refuses to eat local.) By the way, do visit New York the store in the main building for Starbucks. Then after you get your coffee or tea and mango sweet roll, take a deep breath and visit the brand names housed in

Taipei 101. You’ll see all of the biggies there and all of their biggy prices. Then go to the top of the world and see the city from above.

And you must go to the museum. It’s splendidly modern with ancient and contemporary exhibits as befits a culture with the majesty of Taiwan. While at the museum, have lunch at the tea house upstairs. Before you leave the museum for your hotel or the Thai restaurant with the gigantic stuffed elephants in the window by the el (one of my favorite restaurants) or where ever you’re bound, get a t-shirt, a key chain, some beautiful chop sticks, whatever you find that makes you happy. It rained in Taiwan a lot while I was there but I didn’t mind it was such a nice place to visit.
