Positively Powerful Leadership Development, what is leadership

Spirituality and Religion…What’s Old Is New

On the heels of the phenomenal success of The Secret, the resurgence of interest in human potential trainings, particularly those that combine wealth with personal development at light speed (The Millionaire Mind Intensive for example), we are moving forward to “make a difference” once again.

What do you think is the reason for today’s renewed interest in spirituality and religion? Let me know your thoughts.

Recently read in the New York Times: Across the country, on secular campuses as varied as Colgate University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of California, Berkeley, chaplains, professors and administrators say students are drawn to religion and spirituality with more fervor than at any time they can remember.

More students are enrolling in religion courses, even majoring in religion; more are living in dormitories or houses where matters of faith and spirituality are a part of daily conversation; and discussion groups are being created for students to grapple with questions like what happens after death, dozens of university officials said in interviews.

A survey on the spiritual lives of college students, the first of its kind, showed in 2004 that more than two-thirds of 112,000 freshmen surveyed said they prayed, and that almost 80 percent believed in God. Nearly half of the freshmen said they were seeking opportunities to grow spiritually, according to the survey by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles.

  1. Doctor Joel:

Many thoughts flood my mind in response to the question…."What do yo think is the reason for renewed interest in spirituality and religion".

    The most prominate one is:
" When all else fails, read the instructions !". Another one is: If what you are doing is not working ,try something different ". Same theme, different phraseology.

The point is that as time marches on, and the human condition seems to remain unfulfilled on a mass level ,people begin to seek answers and those answers intuitively are directed to a Higher Power. Innately Most people sense a Higher Power. When attention is directed to the studies on college campuses And the shifting considerations in some corporations, it is in my opinion a matter, of coming into the understanding that a wholistic approach to life includes every element of our being, i.e. Body, Mind and Spirit. To deny any aspect is to live incomplete.

Now let's draw a distinction between Religion and Spirituality. Whereas we may easily meet those who consider themselves Spiritual, they may not consider themselves Religious. The reference to the movie, The Secret brings an amazing
perspective to our current Global Consciousness. I am very fortunate and truly Blessed to have been personnally mentored by several of the individuals in that film.

My training began upon making the discovery, of the same discovery, which led the films producer and creative director to bring The Secret to the world. I say,
Praise God !, because it is bringing about a massive elevation of consciousness on a worlwide scope.

That film is currently being translated into 9 languages. It certainly has is detractors, but what or who doesn't when change is ushered in ? Getting back to Religion, it's better to have it than not, oveall. Problem is (my opinion) is that we still have not figured out how to accept and honor one another if they are on another path.

All rivers lead to the ocean. We often confuse rituals, dogma, and doctrine for enlightened guidance without realizing that in many instances the interpretations and re-interpretations and re-re- interpretaions have gotten the flock waay off center.

We cannot or should not condone in any form or fashion the actions of many as the commands of God. Some have a distorted version of their Religion as it was originally given to the world. Any objective research into the historical archives will reveal this.

STILL, it's better (in my opinion) to have religion than Not have religion. And by that I do mean the alignment with the Creator of all we know and even do not know.

Money and Religion/Spirituality. I have No issues, problems, reservations or hesitations with merging it all together. Because It's All Good. Money in itsef has no inherent value other than which we use it for. It could purchase and sustain life and it could contribute to ones demise. For too long we have accepted the notion that deprivation somehow pleases God. The poor are somehow automatically closer to GOD. Well, Abraham, Solomon, and many others were known to be favored by God and they had wealth. Thing is, we are Not to take any god beside God and that means your money, your job, your spouse, your government, your NO-THING.

It goes back to something we said earlier, we must engage life from a total perspective. Body, Mind and Spirit. To neglect any aspect of our being is to be incomplete. Finally, we (my organization) is collecting contact information from those interested in being a part of what we know will be a fabulous experience, which is to study the work that was the inspiration for The Secret.
