Positively Powerful Leadership Development, what is leadership

Think Bold, Act Bolder

babiesThinking of bold ideas is no solution if they are not followed by bold actions. Imagine three birds sitting on a fence. Three decide to fly away. How many fly away? The answer? None. It takes more than deciding, it takes action. Actions speak louder than words.

Here is something I remind people about when I coach them on taking action: If we did as babies what we do as grown-ups, we would never have learned to walk. We would take that first step, fall down, cuss a bit, blame it on gravity, and never get up again! We would say, “Well, I tried it, and it didn’t work. So I quit.” Well, the greatest failure is in not in falling down but in not trying at all to get up…Forget trying. It’s not getting back up.

Have you ever had a great idea and done nothing about it? A bold idea that you KNEW would make a difference? You got a burst of energy imagining how it would impact business. Or grinned when you thought of people actually engaged in it. Maybe you even put pen to paper, put a few notes in a word doc, or some other very good beginning. Likely this was the step where you stopped. With the idea. How much more adventurous life would be if we all lived our dreams. How much more passionate we would be creating this valuable big “it”.

Our actions determine the pace and momentum of our accomplishments. So we must act with urgency and courage  rather than desperation. You can’t do it all alone so enroll others in your big ideas and delegate where you can. But above all else – take actions that are bold.
