Positively Powerful Leadership Development, what is leadership

Trapped by History-Think Positively About the Future

Once Transformation occurs what proceeded it loses its significance and it becomes History. Instead of participating in the transformation, or change, many of us focus on the history leading up to the actual event, mesmerized by the telling of the story. We are not suggesting attention not be paid to history but rather we recognize it’s limitations.

  1. History is never the complete story. It is at its best a snapshot of a point in time taken by a single view lens with cloudy edges and a colored gel over it for perceptions.
  2. While it is a story that reflects the teller’s interpretation of what might have happened, it is not the story of what will and needs to happen now.

2009 has been full of events, some transformational, that will be recounted in books, movies and other media in the years to follow. Some will become required reading for degree programs and be sighted as often as “The Great Depression” or “The War to End all Wars” or “Founding Fathers, In Their Wisdom…”, expressions that’s used to stay rooted in the past.  As an example “The War to End all Wars” tells us how terrible that war was but has not been a motivating enough factor to actually end wars.

Paying attention to what brought us to the transformational events will never prove to be as important as what we do Positively and Powerfully after the event.

What do you think will prove to be a transformational event and what do you see as the resulting possibility because of it? We appreciate your input. Please complete the short 2 question survey below. Results will be shared.
