Leslie your brilliance is timeless. Thank you for this thoughtful response. I like the term "ghost". A good term for was is not real. My old conversations creep up on me in times of stress when I wish that someone would come to my rescue. Very funny, these thoughts are remnants of our childhoods when we were truly the little ones. The illusion of control. Today I will seek peace and let it go. That's my thought for the day.

Hi Cathy, Thank you for your response. Yes, organizations should see the two as separate yet connected commitments. Both are aspects of their corporate cultures with an emphasis on recruitment and community outreach for the broadening of the diversity within the company and alignment to mission, vision, core values, empowerment, team building and leadership development for inclusion. Cultural audits, executive coaching, employee satisfaction surveys are also useful. Let me know if you'd like more information or if I can be of more direct assistance working with you and your teams. Joel

Joel, this is is the simplest and most strateghtforward way I've seen anyone define clearly the difference between diversity and inclusion. Why am I not surprised that it was you?! So, the next question is: should organizations define their strartegy as "diversity & inclusion" rather than one or the other as you often see?

So true Joel. I always loved your definition of 'little people' before they take in the world around them - we all start out as little 'hearts with feet'! And then as we begin to observe, interact in, and absorb messages from the world around us, we develop the layers that we find necessary to move comfortably (in our comfort zone!) in our surroundings. Thanks for sharing this reminder to examine what beliefs we still hold on to that are no longer serving us well and may be detrimental to us in our teenage or adult lives! I like to call these 'ghosts' that revisit us whenever we get 'triggered' by something in the present moment ... and rather than taking a deep breath and choosing to remain in the 'present moment', we consciously or unconsciously go with the 'old story' and allow the 'ghost' to come visit us again.

My 'ghost' was a bundle of thoughts, emotions & physical reactions when my 'being perfect' was challenged. My thought was: 'I can't make a mistake.' My emotional reaction was: fear & shame. My physical reaction was: to become tongue tied, quiet & retraction. Once I realized this (the first step is being aware of the 'ghost' that visits), I could then tell the ghost: "Oh there you are again. You served me at one time, but no longer serve me well. So, take a seat."! Then it became a much easier (beware it takes practice!) to let go of the fear (after all we humans are finite & imperfect little beings ... sounds so simple now) and then make a choice to go with the 'current moment' and move in 'curiosity' & 'wonder'. Oh how freeing this was ... and still is! I have found that I am reclaiming my spontaneous little girl again!

Again, much gratitude for your thought for the day! Thanks for posting this Joel.
