Welcome to the A NEW WAY FORWARD (ANWF) a series of Virtual Trainings that were produced by the Virtual Training Team with Dr. Joel Martin, interviewer, producer and A NEW WAY FORWARD Braintrust member.
“A NEW WAY FORWARD: HEALING WHAT’S HURTING BLACK AMERICA is a call to healing. A project of the National Cares Mentoring Movement, it seeks to create wholeness in body, mind, spirit and community among African Americans so we will become a protective shield for our vulnerable young.” National Cares Mentoring Movement CEO and founder, Susan L. Taylor is the architect of A New Way Forward, an effort she began during her 37 year tenure at ESSENCE MAGAZINE. Ms. Taylor resigned from the magazine as editor-in-chief emeritus in 2007 in order to build what has now become the largest and most respected organization in the nation that focuses on recruiting Black mentors.
Following is a listing and description of the virtual trainings. Listen with your heart wide open so that together we can secure a generation by recruiting African American men and women to become the mentors our precious young so need. An hour a week is all it takes. To learn more click here. And thank you.
Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant
How Do We Live And Love With Our Whole Selves? A Virtual Training With Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant.
Recorded August 27th
A New Way Forward Braintrust Member, Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant tells us that she is “just an ordinary person.” And yet while she loves to do the things that ordinary people do, Iyanla has proven herself to be extraordinary. Her ability to face her own pain and then with uncompromising honesty recount for us how she struggled through a tragedy, found strength after she thought all was lost, triumphed when only failure seemed possible, has healed millions. Much of what she has seen, heard and lived through would have devastated the ordinary person. But despite her experiences—perhaps because of them—Iyanla discovered the power that lies within the soul. She has emerged from the most difficult of times shining, sharing her stories, her discoveries and her love with the world. Iyanla is a renowned trainer, international speaker and publishing force who has written some books, including five New York Times bestsellers. Peace From Broken Pieces, about the end of her marriage and her beloved daughter’s death, is her most recent offering and was featured in a two-part discussion on Oprah last spring.
On this call, with Iyanla as our guide, we delve deeply into our hearts and spirits so that we can be fully open and loving as we embrace our precious young and heal our communities. So many of us walk through the world with gaping wounds, despite the strong, happy masks we put on for the world to see. But we deserve to heal. Our wounds deserve salve. On this call with Iyanla, we considered many questions including
- How do you bring yourself back from tragedy?
- How do you come to a loving partnership whole?
- What is true transformation and how do we make this happen in our lives and for our communities?
- What do you tell those who are mentoring or getting ready to mentor about healing their own wounds?
