Innovative leaders are trailblazers who find a need and work diligently to fulfill it. Such is the case for the woman who will receive the 2015 Entrepreneurial Leadership Award, Bonnie Lucas. I applaud her courageousness to forge ahead in new territory, for never giving up, for her commitment to community and for being successful in a male-dominated industry. She is a role model and one of the six leaders to be honored at the Positively Powerful Woman Awards & Leadership Conference June 5.

Bonnie LucasBonnie founded her company, Law Enforcement Specialists, in 1994. At that time, companies were finding it difficult to hire off-duty officers as required by insurance companies and others. Bonnie saw that need as a void that could impact public safety and set out to do something about it. She created Law Enforcement Specialists with the philosophy, “when there is an element of threat, only full-time police officers are trained, equipped, and empowered to respond decisively.” It is that philosophy that has made Bonnie’s company one of the nation’s top security firms.

When a woman owns and operates a company in a male-dominated industry like law enforcement, it can go from challenging to absolutely daunting. And Bonnie has excelled and thrived…for 20 years! Law Enforcement Specialists employs nearly 3,000 active duty law enforcement officers on her security teams. And Bonnie has accomplished this with a joyful spirit.

She has defined success and built a company that is a local and national service provider. She has made communities safer by making available officers who provide additional protection for businesses, churches, and events. She is a positively powerful force for her clients such as Salt River Project (SRP) as well as for the police officers she selects to serve these clients. As one officer said, “LES is the best thing that’s ever happened to our family. LES is very reliable and conscientious about the needs of officers.”
