Phillip Kotter says marketing is…”the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit. Marketing identifies unfulfilled needs and desires.”
Here are a few of the many take ways that resulted from my first Post-Summit Positively Powerful Webinar. My two special guests who will bring us their ideas perspectives, to life are Positively Powerful businesswomen and leaders, Jackie Wszalek and Dr. Pamela Williamson.
Have a network of support. Whether you have a business challenge or an idea you want to create, have a network of support, people who you trust to “have your back”. How do you create one? This comes from your being giving and accepting support. Many of us want to be a lone wolf, to go it alone, to think we know it all, this is a strategy that in a time of a business crisis will not work. Here are a few ideas around network building that were mentioned:
- Be authentic.
- Make a habit of doing virtual introductions to people you think have similar business interests and who might find it beneficial to know each other.
- Share and give resources and information that others can benefit from.
Be consistent. Create your marketing program in such a way that the graphic elements, the words you use, and your social media, website work have a “family” look.
Know your target audience. If your target customer is business to consumer (B2C) or business to business (B2B), the look of your website and the tone of your copy will be different. Another example was in the use of printed materials. Your message may work better on a promotional item for one person and on a brochure for another.
Be a problem solver. The transformational tip I chose to share for my first webinar came from reading “How to introduce yourself so you’ll be unforgettable (in a good way!)” Each one of us is unique, talented and brilliant in our own way. The key point of this is to state your uniqueness in your introduction rather than just your name, company, and title. It works like this: “What problems do you solve at work? And what makes you especially effective at doing so? Framing yourself as a problem-solver may trigger an instant reaction when you meet someone new” says

Hong Yee Mei, 2018 Positively Powerful Woman of Education Leadership: Country Manager and Co-founder of Milestone Trainings in Malaysia. Yee Mei has had 20 years of experience in the transformational training industry. In the last 6 years, she has been instrumental in building Milestone Trainings from an idea to an organization that has seen 1368 new students in the transformational training program in 2017. This work which bears the hallmark of her role and contribution has changed the lives of the graduates and cascaded into their families, workplace, and communities. Essence Ventures: The Power of Values and being Valued.
“Values are the morals that we live by. They reside deep within us, and they affect our emotions. They are tough to alter, and often reside in our unconsciousness” (Source: How To Be A Positively Powerful Person! The Spirit-Filled Edition. Dr. Joel Martin).
Values keep us healthy — emotionally, spiritually, and physically. They are the ones that we must unquestionably keep, and the ones that must direct our actions. Our values are our strengths. As a consultant, executive coach and facilitator, I’ve been called me ‘The Transformation Generator’ for a reason. My unwavering promise is that I make sure the people I work for achieve their ULTIMATE goals in life and business. I value what they value and their missions as my own. So, I had an emotional response when I read that Essence magazine, a client of my ad agency years ago, is Black owned once again. The values Essence personified were acknowledgment, respect and commitment. They were committed to bringing equity and equality as “a marquee lifestyle brand for African American women.”
Congratulations to “@Essence Ventures LLC, a company launched in 2017 by Shea Moisture founder Richelieu Dennis. As a result, the Essence brand has returned to a 100% black-owned independent company, after 12 years of being owned by Time.….As part of the new deal, Essence President Michelle Ebanks will continue in her role and join its board of directors. This morning I had the great opportunity to chat with Ken Morgan and Mark Asher, the congenial hosts of the Business For Breakfast radio program on Money Radio 1510. We talked about the upcoming 10th Annual Positively Powerful Woman Awards at the Desert Botanical Garden.
This is the 10th Anniversary and our intentions are the same but we’ve grown – stronger, more global, even more, committed to “Celebrating the accomplishments of women in ways that empower all people to live their dreams!” There can never be enough recognition bestowed upon the strong, honorable, and powerful women in our communities and beyond. Our Celebration Weekend’s June 10th Gala and June 9th Global Women’s World Cafe are the platforms for providing the praise, connections, and gratitude due to all women.
